Irish road race champion Siobhan Dervan is currently an excellent 24th overall in the Route de France Féminine, considered the women’s equivalent of the Tour de France.

The Team Fenixs rider finished a fine seventeenth in the stage six time trial, beating many big names in world cycling. She was two minutes 55.39 seconds off the dominant pace set by overall race leader Luise Keller (Team Columbia Women), who beat second-placed Tatiana Antoshina (Fenixs) by 39.78 seconds. The third placed rider Grace Verbeke (Lotto-Belisol Ladiesteam) was one minute 19.45 seconds back.

Dervan had earlier finished in the main bunch on stage four to Argenteuil, where Urte Juodvalkyte (USC Chirio Forno d'Asolo) soloed to victory. She then crossed the line in the same time as Keller and the other race favourites on stage five, placing 30th on the stage.

The Corkwoman’s strong time trial moved her up to her current placing in the general classification. She lies 14 minutes behind Keller going into the final stage, but will have gained a lot of confidence from what has been a very consistent performance in France. Indeed she would have been higher up in the general classification had she not had to give a team-mate a wheel during the second stage. She finished five minutes 15 seconds back that day.

Dervan’s is the third best-placed Fenixs rider in the overall classification, and the squad is fifth overall in the best team ranking. The race concludes later today with a stage starting and finishing in Rouen.
