After four days of the Route de France, Siobhan Dervan (Fenixs) is an excellent 27th overall in the race. She is 11 minutes and five seconds behind the general classification leader Luise Keller (Columbia) heading into today’s 138.5 kilometre stage from Fontainebleau to Argenteuil.

Rosane Kirch (S.C. Michela Fanini Record Rox) and Edwige Pitel (Team Pro Feminin Les Carroz) are second and third overall.

The women’s Tour de France got underway on Sunday with a 3.2 kilometre time trial in Dijon. Keller’s team-mate Ina Teutenberg won, beating closest challenger Grace Verbeke (Lotto-Belisol Ladiesteam) by 1.63 seconds. Dervan was a good 35th out of 80 starters, completing the course 23.72 seconds off the wining pace.

Teutenberg was tops once again on Monday’s first stage, a 82.5 kilometre leg from Dijon to Louhans Chateaurenard. Giorgia Bronzini (Cycling Team Titanedi-Frezza Acca Due O) and Alona Andruk (USC Chirio Forno d'Asolo) were second in the mass bunch sprint to the line. Irish road race champion Dervan also finished in this group, rolling in 53rd.

The riders were more spread out on Tuesday’s 116.6 kilometre leg to Guegnon. Martina Corazza (Gauss RDZ Ormu) and Anke Wichmann (Team Columbia Women) crossed the line in the same time, while Bronzini came in a further nine seconds back.

Dervan was 38th, five minutes and fifteen seconds in arrears. Yesterday’s 109 kilometre stage to Les Settons was mountainous and saw Keller finish 46 seconds ahead of Rosane Kirch (S.C. Michela Fanini Record Rox) and one minute eleven ahead of Edwige Pitel (Team Pro Feminin Les Carroz).

Dervan was part of a group led home by sixth-place finisher Oxana Kozonchuk (Menikini - Selle Italia). They were five minutes 45 seconds back, with the Corkwoman placing 31st.

She is playing a team-mate role for those on her Fenixs squad and will be happy with her showing thus far. She has proved this year that she is capable of mixing with those at the very top of women’s world cycling. Despite this, she was passed over for grant assistance earlier this season.
