The An Post sponsored Sean Kelly team's preparations for the upcoming Tour of Ireland received a welcome boost on Saturday, with team member Daniel Fleeman winning the 2008 Tour De Pyrenees in France.
Fleeman looked certain to secure the overall yellow jersey after finishing second on the toughest stage of the four-day race, Stage 2, with the summit finish at Couraduque.
But his victory was also down to a superb team performance from the An Post boys in green, helping Fleeman defend his overall lead over the final two stages.
Team Manager Kurt Bogaerts was delighted with the win "This was a really big race for us and very important in our preparations for the tour. It was a great experience for the team to be in a race that stays in the mountains and one that had a summit finish as well – it is good preparation for that final stage in Cork"
Fleeman was delighted with his first major win "I had a good idea I would go well but I have to say, the team was really good. Thanks to them, on the last day I did absolutely nothing."
The team take in one more one-day race in Belgium next Tuesday, 19th August, before coming to Ireland for the final preparations for the Tour of Ireland.
