BOOT INN LEAGUE:
By Heather Boyle

Round 7 of the Boot Inn League was a 10 mile TT, two laps of the usual circuit. Orla Hendron (Orwell Wheelers) was the fastest woman home in a time of 23.51, a time fast enough to overcome the adjusted times of all other contenders. However, there was a good mix of the groups in the top 6.

After a summer of excellent coaching and a lot of bunch racing, round 7 was the moment of truth. The riders were getting the chance to test themselves against the clock, with a handicap system in place, awarding seconds to each ability group. Bray Wheelers supplied the time keepers, with Joanne O Shea and Mr O Shea taking over the show for the night.

Club of the night had to be Orwell Wheelers - who had a team of six riders racing, with Orla and Monica Marconi taking the top two spots. Third place went to Heather Boyle (Ravens) with Kathleen Gill (MyHome.ie) coming in 4th, ahead of Sinéad Mcbreen (Pirhanna Tri-Club) who was taking time out of her prep for a half iron man! Roisin Kennedy (Lucan) completed the top 6.

Several PBs were set on the night, thanks to the favourable conditions, and pre-race advice from Paddy Doran. While it wasn't the warmest of nights, the wind was blowing a different direction to normal - helping us along the long drag, where we usually are struggling into a headwind. The vets were out in force to marshal - making the course safe for the riders who were steadily making their way around the course. Thanks to Séan Lally, Jimmy Lally and his wife, and Tosh Lavery for coming to help, a special thanks to Tosh for organising the garda lead car.

An added bonus for the riders was to race alongside members of the Paralympic Team, who took up on the opportunity to include a 10 TT in their preparation for the Paralympic Games next September. Cathal Miller procuded the fastest time of the day, with Mick Delaney getting another race in his legs, pilotted by Bray's Fionnuala ní Bhradaigh. Joanna Hickey switched to the solo bike for the race, and Enda Smyth was chief bike holder.

Top 6 in the league ranking after 7 rounds are:
Heather Boyle (Ravens) - 47 points;
Jennifer O' Reilly (Ravens) & Monica Marconi (Orwell) & Roisin Kennedy (Lucan) = 36 points;
Louise Fullerton (Ballymena) - 34 points;
Kathleen Gill (MyHome.ie) - 31 points.

Many thanks to Brendan Culleton of Crips Photos for the pictures of the event.
