Whilst the A's have been on a diet when it came to a selection of races in the recent pass! Not this weekend. It would be similar going into a restaurant and having the pick of the menu such is the variety of races both on the track and on the road.

One man who has been caught up in the choice of menu is John Concar of the Donamon Dynamos CC. "Yes, on Sunday it is pity that there are so many events to pick and choose from? But what of it! Irrespective, we'll put on a show. There is also a big field day in the area, so the public will have something to keep their eye on during the afternoon. Our own man Simon Coughlan is off to the track championships in Dublin for the weekend" said john.

Proceedings get under way at noon. All categories will be catered for and the circuit is a ten mile circuit. It takes in Castlecoote, Donamon and Creggs. Incidentally the course takes in part of Co. Galway and Roscommon. Last week's one two in Tuam and heroes of the hour in the Martin Donnelly Junior Tour representing Stena Ireland will be action. Charles Prendergast got the better of Michael Duffy at the Co. Galway venue last Sunday, but this time Michael is home ground and will be hoping to keep the locals happy. Start up time is mid-day.

The enthusiasm that the Navan/Avonmore club show for promotions at this time of year is fantastic. Last Saturday they were in Ballivor and the action on Sunday is in Robinstown. Noel Clarke is at the helm and it is all systems go for. As normal with a Navan promotion they are catering for the Under Age which has scheduled start at eleven o'clock. The Tommy Brady Memorial comes out of the traps at one o'clock for the 80kms. Last week's winner in Balivor, Philip Lavery could opt for the Meath venue.

Down the road in the sunny south east, Enniscorthy to pin point the location> Slaney CC host the fourth edition of the Eddie Tobin Road Race. In years gone by the event has provided great racing over the past three years with some of Ireland's top riders taking the honours, Ciaran Power in 2005, Morgan Fox in 2006 and Brian Kenneally last year. Also on the day that is in it, the finale day of the Tour de France. The late Eddie would have been packing his bags to make the journey back home. Eddie would have been working with John Pierce that photographer extraordinaire and John would have been pleased that he had notched up yet another Tour.

This years event is again sponsored by The Riverside Park Hotel and we are very grateful to general manager Jim Maher for his continued commitment to the event. The prizing giving will take place after the event at The Riverside Park Hotel.

IRISH TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

In a way it is pity that the National Track Championships which are being staged at the Eamonn Ceannt Stadium in Crumlin have to contend with other competitions. Speaking to Will Byrne of the Track Commission yesterday, I could sense the enthusiasm coming down the line that the people behind the 'championships' are all set. "I am looking for volunteers to help out. Are you available?," said Will. Unfortunately that met with a deadly silence.

"The big problem we have is the weather! Talk about summer how are you. Everything else sits into place. There is a great bunch of people who love the track. The programme is in place. The setting is ideal and it is going to be a fun day. "There is growth here and the amount of youngsters that come along warms your heart. "But the main thing now, is that the champs go ahead this weekend and hopefully there will be records set," said Will.

As of yesterday, Will was unsure if David O'Loughlin who is bound for Beijing would be in attendance. This event will be run by the Track Commission of Ireland in accordance with Cycling Ireland. Racing is subject to weather conditions and this program is subject to change at the right of the commission. Riders may hire commission bikes but must have a UCI Licence (IRL) and have been accredited by the Track Commission. Riders are responsible for their own safety and the safety of other riders and must abide by the rules of the Track as set down by the Track Commission.

KERRY YOUTH TOUR

Preliminary details of the 2008 Kerry Youth Tour were announced in Killorglin during the week. The race, which is the largest of its kind in Ireland or Great Britain, is now in its tenth year and continues to grow. The Kerry Youth Tour is a major item in the calendar for all Irish and British youth riders. It is also a major money-spinner for the Mid-Kerry area generating as it does approx 2500 bed nights and the consequent spending in the area.

Kerry Group will be the title sponsor of the race again in 2008.

Race Director Kieran Doherty remarked, “The support of Kerry Group for the Youth Tour is the cornerstone for the continued development of the race”.

The event will follow the four-stage formula, which has proved a success previously. As in previous years, there will be three categories of racing on each stage.

Category 1 and 1a for boys born in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
Category 2 and 2a for boys born in 1994 and 1995 respectively.
Category 3 and 3a for boys born in 1996 and 1997 respectively.

Girls race alongside the boys but the age categories are reduced by two years.
