Dear Editor,

I am writing in relation to the date change of the next round of the Women's National League race from the 22nd June to the 15th of June, a decision made at the beginning of this week (09-06-08). I wish to lodge a complaint about this.

I have been told that this change is to ensure the race does not clash with the Paddy Flanagan 2-day race in Kildare. However, I question why it is considered acceptable for it to clash with the 2-day stage race in Connacht this weekend, especially when it is unlikely that any women will attend the Paddy Flanagan as it scheduled the weekend before the Women's National Championship time trial and road race.

I understood when the original national league race timetable was issued at the beginning of the year, that these fixtures would be maintained or that at a minimum due notice would be given of any change, I do not consider six days notice to be sufficient . This is not the first time that such a change has occurred, for example the late change in status of the 2007 Balivor Road Race from a Women's National League race status to a non-league event.

As the number of women cyclists competing is small, I consider it important that as many women as possible should be encouraged to attend these races. However, if it is decided to change these dates at such late notice, it makes it increasingly difficult to attend and support women's cycling events and is subsequently very frustrating. This is more significant for those who have to drive longer distances to get to these events and the associated planning required.

I ask that in future, if a Women's National League race is to be changed, that at a minimum, six weeks notice is given. I do not think this an unreasonable request considering there are only eight races per year in the Women's National League Series.
