GREAT TURN OUT FOR BOOT INN LEAGUE
By Heather Boyle

With over twenty women turning up for Round 2 of the Women's Boot Inn League 2008, Stamullen's Nicky Veale was the first woman over the line. Ravens CRT hosts of the race, jazzed it up with five primes up for grabs at various points, ensuring all the groups kept the pressure on for the 20 miles.

Despite being first time racers, the limit group held their own when Semi Scratch caught them. Together they worked hard to hold off scratch, and claim the top places.

Coming into the line Semi-Scratch showed their slight edge over the limit group, with Nicky taking first place, followed by triathlete Jen O Reilly, and Louise Fullerton from Ballymena taking third place. Peta Stomps, Amanda Corey and Monica Marconi were next across the line. Once again the Orwell girls were out in force, strongly represented in each group.

Nicky Veale - Winner of Round 2
The scratch group was slightly smaller than usual, with 8 riders lining up with the tough challenge of closing a 9 minute gap to limit over the 4 laps. The task was slightly too much, and while they never gained contact with the groups up ahead, the pace was kept lively with the sprints for primes.

The first prime was won by first time racer Andrea - who normally rides a fixer, but adjusted to the road bike pretty quickly. The rest of the primes were grabbed by Jen O'Reilly, Aideen Collard, Louise Fullerton and Heather Boyle.

After round 2 we have a new league leader in Jen O Reilly, followed closely by Peta Stomps and Nicky Veale.

Many thanks to the Ravens who were out in force, making it a very enjoyable evening of racing.

Next up for women's cycling is round 4 of the National League in Mullingar on Sunday next, hosted by Lakeside Wheelers.
