| Catherine Walsh and Joanna Hickey winners of the Female Tandem Even |
At Sunday evening’s Schlapp Tandem Omnium (Open to both sighted and visually impaired riders) Irish Male Tandem pairing of Michael Delaney and David Peelo set a new Irish Record of 1:09.547 in the 1Km Time Trial on the way to a 7th place overall in the competition. Andrew Fitzgerald and John Lynch finished in 9th place and first time competitors Tony White and Con Collis finished a very credible 11th.
The Female Tandem pairing of Catherine Walsh and Joanna Hickey finished in 2nd place overall in the ladies competition. Also taking part in the ladies competition were Irish riders Fionnuala Ni Bhradig and Louise Harwich who were involved in a crash in the Match Sprint competition which forced them out of the competition. Thankfully both are on the mend with no broken bones.
The squad then travelled down to Newport to participate in the Paralympic Grand Prix of Wales. LC1 rider Cathal Miller set a New Irish Record of 5:01.623 in the 4Km Pursuit and good enough to give him second place overall in the Omnium.
