Cycleways Track League

We had a great turnout for this seasons 1st round of the Cycleways Track League with plenty of old faces and some very welcome new ones with all categories represented. It was especially pleasing to see so many U/age participants some who came with fathers in tow and all competing. This year we hope to concentrate on introducing more riders to the sport but we very much want to take all out track riders to the next level and we intend to do this with more structured training on Saturdays. We will also be running SQT's (Structured Quality Training) covering the various aspects of the sport and calling on the expertise from riders who have excelled and specialised is Sprint, Pursuit and Points. For the next two weeks however we will be focusing on introducing new riders to the sport. This coming Saturday we will be having a Track Open Day where riders can come any try out track riding and we will teach you how to ride a track bike safely and take you through an accreditation which is the prerequisite to riding or racing on the track. We will even supply the bikes - just bring your own pedals if you use anything other than Look Delta. No charge for hire bikes for accreditation and all you need is a Cycling Ireland Club Licence to participate in Saturday training/accreditation.You will however need a full (or track) racing licence to participate in the Wednesday League.

Tonight we kept the racing groups slightly smaller than usual with the emphasis on getting riders riding in a controlled and safe manner through the early laps as many of us hadn't raced track in quite a few months. We just about managed to give everyone 3 races but we hope to stretch this 5 races per individual every Wednesday over the coming weeks

BTW for those who are wondering what a 'Reverse win and out is, the race is run over a set number of laps and the winner of the first sprint is deemed to be placed 3rd and leaves the race. a few laps later, another sprint and the winner of this os placed 2nd in the race and also leaves the race and the overall winner is the person who places 1st in the final sprint. A certain amount of gambling by who ever considers themselves the best sprinter in the race, Makes it interesting!

Please remember - Track Open Day this Saturday 10th May at Sundrive from 10.30 to start at 11 sharp!!!
