Following on from a very successful and enjoyable spring season in Majorca, Sportactive are gearing up for two big programmes in France this July.



The first is the La Marmotte Sportif, taking place on July 5th and scaling four Alpine cols during the 174 kilometre distance. These are the Col du Glandon (1,924 metres), the Col du Télégraphe (1,566 m), the Col du Galibier (2,642 m) and what is probably the most famous climb in cycling, Alpe d’Huez (1,860 m).




The second is the annual trip to the Tour de France, which offers the chance to ride the Alpe d’Huez stage and then, three days later, see the world’s best riders slug it out on these slopes. Sean Kelly will also join the guests on July 23rd.

The group will be based in the stunning village of St Jean de Maurienne during the trip, which begins on Saturday July 19th and runs until Thursday 24th.

LA MARMOTTE – SPORTACTIVE’S ULTIMATE CHALLENGE

175 kilometres and 5000 metres of climbing over the famous Tour de France climbs of the Cols du Glandon, Telegraphe and Galibier before finishing on top of Alpe d’Huez is what makes the Marmotte the hardest single day Sportive of them all.

The package will include the option of return flights from the UK or Ireland together with bus transfers for you and your bike and an entry for La Marmotte. The accommodation is in the mountain top resort of L’Alpe d’Huez, close to the finish of La Marmotte. The hotel accommodation is based bed & breakfast, 2 sharing a twin room. At the hotel we have secure bike storage.

TOUR DE FRANCE 2008 – SEE THE WORLD’S BIGGEST RACE AND RIDE A STAGE


Join SportActive for a Tour de France experience with a difference in 2008. On this SportActive trip you will get to ride one complete stage of the 2008 Tour and then a few days later watch the Pros racing the same stage. You will receive a free SportActive jersey and a SportActive completion certificate. There are only 20 places on this exclusive holiday experience of a lifetime.

Our Itinerary for the trip is as follows:

• Arrive in Geneva on Saturday 19th July where you and your bike will be transferred by bus to Embrun.
• Evening meal and overnight stay in Embrun where we will hold a briefing for the big challenge the following day.
• Saturday evening your bike boxes/bags and luggage will be transferred to St Jean de Maurianne where we will be based for the remainder of the time. A small overnight bag will be transferred in the support car from Embrun.
• On Sunday morning after breakfast we will begin the stage. There will be two ability groups and they will be supported by a following vehicle. The stage itself is 210KM and is a classic Alpine stage taking in the Col du Lautaret; Col de la Croix-de-Fer; and finishing on L’Alpe-D’Huez
• Following the big challenge of Sunday, Monday will be our rest day for you to explore the town of St Jean de Maurienne.
• Tuesday will be an opportunity for us to re-discover our legs and do some touring over one of the other classic Alpine climbs for lunch and back.
• Wednesday the Pros will ride “our stage”. Today we are on the Tour route and you will be able to choose your own vantage point. That evening, Sean Kelly will join our guests for dinner.
• Thursday we depart for Geneva.
