Nicolas Roche had an excellent ride in the 1.HC ranked Rund um den Henninger Turm yesterday, finishing sixth in the 179 kilometre German race.
Team CSC rider Karsten Kroon was fastest in the nine-man sprint to the line, beating closest challengers Davide Rebellin (Gerolsteiner) and Mauricio Alberto Ardila Cano (Rabobank).
Fabian Wegmann (Gerolsteiner), Christian Knees (Team Milram) and Roche were next across the line, while the main bunch finished 1 minute and 10 seconds back.
“I’m very happy,” said Roche afterwards. “This was a very good performance for me.”
Previously, Sean Kelly was third in 1982 and 1984, while Martin Earley finished in the same position in 1991. Roche’s strong performance shows his form is continuing to improve and will improve the chances of him being selected by the Crédit Agricole team to ride his first Tour de France.
