Philip Deignan had a strong showing on the final stage of the Giro del Trentino in Italy today, placing 20th on a tough 178.6 kilometre mountain leg to Peio Terme.

The Ag2r La Mondiale professional crossed the line 43 seconds behind stage winner Stefano Garzelli (Acqua&Sapone-Caffe' Mokambo), and ahead of top cycling names such as Paolo Savoldelli (LPR Brakes), Serhly Honchar (Preti Mangimi), Danilo Di Luca (LPR Brakes) and world champion Paolo Bettini (Quick Step).

Deignan’s performance elevated him from his overnight placing of 35th to a final finishing position of 26th overall. He was 3 minutes and 31 seconds behind general classification winner Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas), and 25 seconds ahead of 2007 Tour de France King of the Mountains Mauricio Soler Hernandez (Barloworld).

The 24 year old is clearly coming into some very good form and will look to land a big result in the weeks ahead.
