Two stages into the 2.1-ranked Giro del Trentino, Philip Deignan is showing further signs that he is coming into form. The Ag2r La Mondiale rider is 26th overall, 34 seconds behind the general classification leader Jure Golcer (LPR Brakes).

Deignan was 46th in Tuesday’s opening time trial, a 9.68 kilometre prologue held between Arco and Riva del Garda. He covered the distance 35.98 seconds off the pace set by Volodymyr Zagorodny (NGC Medical-OTC Industrial).

He was then 38th on yesterday’s 178 kilometre leg to Torri del Benaco, won in a bunch gallop by former Giro d’Italia winner Stefano Garzelli (Acqua&Sapone-Caffe' Mokambo).

The 2.1-ranked event continues today with the penultimate stage, a 173 kilometre race from Torri del Benaco to Folgaria.

Deignan also competed in the 1.1 Giro d’Oro on Sunday. He finished as part of a large group nine minutes and three seconds behind the winner Gabriele Bosisio (LPR Brakes), placing 58th.
