The Dan Morrissey, Carrick Wheelers cycling club were on song today when they scored a double in the Clonmel Cycling Club’s promotion held at Clerihan on the outskirts of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

In the curtain raiser to the main event, Sam Bennett a second year junior stole all the kudos in a three up sprint in the Junior/Veterans/Ladies race held over 80kms.

John O’Brien put the icing on the cake for the Dan Morrissey team with a solo victory after 102kms. The events were held in memory of Bill Hyland who worked tirelessly on behalf of the sport.

Sean Downey
----

Sean Downey of Banbridge CC has recorded his first International win.

Last weekend he finished second in a tough 110km swiss road race beaten by an Italian rider. Sean riding for the world cycle centre was awarded the yellow leaders jersey as the leading Swiss / French team rider.

On Saturday he defended his leader’s jersey in style competing in a 110km swiss road race. He joined a leading group of four riders in the last 5km and helped the group stay clear of the bunch. He produced a superb finish to win the stage finishing up a tough climb to hold onto the jersey.

On Sunday the action moved to France. He sealed overall victory holding onto the leader’s jersey in the 100km morning road race and wining the final 9km Mountain Time trial in the afternoon, setting a new record for the course.
