McCANN CUP

The 6th annual McCann Cup Road Race, promoted by Omagh Wheelers Cycling Club, takes place this Sunday 13th April, starting at 1pm from the Half Way House Bar on the Omagh to Fintona Road (Tattyreagh Road B122).

Two races are proposed: A 54 mile 'A' race for S2s, selected juniors and strong vets, consisting of 6 laps of the Seskinore 9 mile circuit.

A 45 mile 'B' race is also proposed for S3s, remaining juniors and vets, and ladies, consisting of 5 laps of the same circuit.

Note however that in the event of insufficient numbers on the day, the race organisers reserve the right to revert to one single handicapped race.

The event, as always, has generous sponsorship from Chief Organiser Hugh McCann, McCann Building and Maintenance Contractor, with a cash prize fund in excess of £500.

There will be prizes in each race for the top 6, 1st unplaced junior, 1st unplaced vet and 1st lady finisher.

Sign-on is at the Half Way House Bar at 12.00 midday. Entry fee is £7 or Euro10.

Soup and sandwiches provided for all competitors after the event.

The Orwell Wheelers Randonne 2008, Ballinteer Scout Den 9am Sign on Sunday 27th April 2008 ( 110 km or 70km)

In aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation, Orwell Wheelers are running their Annual Randonne on Sunday 27th April. Starting from the Scout Den in Ballinteer the route and distance are aimed at providing everybody thinking of doing the Wicklow 200 or 100 with an ideal training spin.
The cost of entering on the day is only €15.

Details:
• 9:00 a.m. riders sign in at the Scout Den in Ballinteer. The den is behind the church in Ballinteer.
• Riders will then take the following route:
 Lamb Doyles to Stepaside and Enniskerry
 Powerscourt Waterfall
 Up the back road to Glencree
 Left at the top of Glencree and on up to the top of Sally Gap
 Left at Sally Gap over Luggala and descending to the cross roads.
 Left takes you on the 70 km route over Ballinastoe woods. ( Same as the 110km route)
 Right takes you on the 110km route via Roundwood and on to Laragh.
 Left in Laragh towards Rathdrum and after approx 1km left again just before the bridge.
 This take you via the Vale of Clara to Moneystown and then via Tomriland Cross Roads to Roundwood.
 Roundwood up over the shoulder of Djouce mountain to Enniskerry ( Same as the 70km route)
 From Enniskerry back via Stepaside to Lamb Doyles and the finish at the Scout Den.
 There will be a big mug of coffee and some snacks at the finish and a pat on the back for a job well done.

The route as you can see takes in the first and last sections of the Wicklow 200 so will be ideal preparation for anybody doing either the 100 or 200 routes in June.

Omagh Sports Forum Tour of Ulster 2008

With around 3 weeks to go to this year’s race, entries are flying in, with the closing date of Monday 21st April fast approaching.

Details of the route are as follows:
Stage 1 - Saturday 3rd May - 126 km - Omagh to Omagh. A tough hilly opening stage for the tour with 3 climbs, the last climb coming 20 km from the finish.
Stage 2 - Sunday 4th May – 108 km - Omagh to Omagh. Another tough hilly stage with 5 climbs, the last climb coming only 10 km from the finish.
Stage 3 - Sunday 4th May - Omagh 3.7 km (TT) - Dromore Road.
Stage 4 - Monday 5th May – 117 km Omagh to Omagh. Flat in comparison to the early stages, with only 3 climbs early on in the stage.
