Cycling Ulster will be holding a seminar on Saturday 9th February in the Discovery Centre, Oxford Island, Craigavon from 10.00 am to 4pm approx. The seminar will deal with issues of event promotion, safety, time trials, championships and the role of marshalls. There will also be talks on motorbike marshalls, Leisure events and Child Protection.
There will be an opportunity for club members involved with Youth to complete POCVA forms so that they can be checked before AccessNI comes on board. Chief Inspector Ian Blayney, will be in attendance to explain the new PSNI guidelines on race numbers. Cycling Ireland's Treasurer, Rory Wyley will be accompanied by the new insurance consultant, Steven Malone, to try and answer some of the many queries we have regarding insurance. Davy McCall will also give a talk about motor bike marshalls.
Paul Watson will explain the role of Commissaires and answer any questions regarding the latest CI Rules and Regulations which are available for download on the Download section to the left. Andy Potts will deal with Off Road events while Gary McKeegan and Adrian Hughes will outline their coaching plan for the year and inform clubs how they can help with club coaching. Brian Nugent hopes to be available to talk about Club Development and Accreditation. Emma and Andrew Fitzgerald will provide an up-date on the Cycling Ulster Disability Commission and outline the proposed work of the Commission. There may also be a representative from Sport NI in attendance.
This is an important seminar and we urge all clubs to send at least two representatives. While many events appear to be well organised there is still some bad practice going on due mainly to lack of knowledge. Club events are particularly at risk. In this day and age of a 'claim' culture it is vital that all clubs do all in their power to keep themselves covered.
The cost of the seminar is £10 which will include soup and sandwiches for lunch. All club secretaries will be contacted by email or post but we urge members who read this to bring it to the attention of their club. The seminar is also open to clubs outside Ulster if they wish to attend.
