Louise Moriarty had an excellent showing in the second round of the Revolution track series held in the Vodaphone Arena in Melbourne on Wednesday. The Irishwoman won the points race, beating the second-placed rider Tess Downing by two points.

Her victory was based around the fact that there were double points up for grabs in the final sprint. The win came as something of a surprise to Moriarty, who initially thought that someone else had triumphed. "I didn't realize until about ten minutes afterwards when somebody told me,” she told Cyclingnews.com. “I didn't know there were double points for the last sprint. I just wanted to have an attack, and I had intended to attack after one of the earlier sprints but there wasn't an appropriate moment - my legs just took me then, so I went."

Moriarty was also eighth in the scratch race, won by Kate Cullen ahead of Liz Georgouras and Commonwealth Games points race silver medallist Rochelle Gilmore. Her aim is to try to qualify for the track events in the 2008 Olympics, and she is expected to take part in the next round of the track world cup in Los Angeles.
