MORIARTY AIMING FOR OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION
Irish rider Louise Moriarty competed over the weekend in the Sydney round of the track cycling World Cup, riding the scratch and points races.
She was forced to get a loan of a bike from her friend Sara White after hers got lost in transit on the way to Australia. She got through to the final of the scratch race and finished 22nd there.
Moriarty also rode the points race and finished 13th in heat one. However this was not enough to qualify her for the final.
She will now compete for a few weeks in Adelaide before travelling to Los Angeles for the third round of the track World Cup. This runs from January 18th to 20th. She is not racing in the second round, which will be held this coming weekend in Beijing. However several Irish male riders from the Pezula team will be there, getting their own Olympic qualification campaign underway.
Moriarty’s bikes were eventually returned to her, although a set of wheels is still missing.
PHYSIOLOGICAL TESTING FOR WOMEN THIS SATURDAY
Cycling Ireland’s women’s commission has announced that it will be running a series of performance tests for female riders. The first of these is taking place in the Alsaa Centre (near Dublin airport) on Saturday and is four minutes in length. The test will measure power output on a stationary bike, from which important data can be gleaned.
The commission has stated that the testing is open to all riders who want to compete in the national league or internationally in 2008, who want to improve their performance or who simply want to find out more about their cycling ability.
Riders are asked to bring their own bike for warm-up purposes, plus cycling shoes and pedals.

Applicants are required to notify us by email, including a summary of their cycling performances to date. The first testing session will be on Saturday 8th December in the Alsaa Centre in Dublin.
Applications and CV’s are to be returned to Brian Nugent at brnugent@yahoo.co.uk and Valerie Considine at valerieconsidine@gmail.com before Thursday 6th December.
For further information, contact Brian on the above e-mail or +353 (0) 868333851. If you cannot attend this Saturday but are interested in participating in future tests, please get in touch with us anyway.
This is an excellent opportunity to find out more about your own performance and how to improve it, especially if you want to race in the National League or internationally in 2008, so make sure to come if you are available on Saturday!
