Louise Harliwich (All Systems DWCC) moved into the top spot in the Boot Inn League last night, when she won the fifth round in the series. Twenty women raced the 3 lap event, including six welcome newcomers. Bernie McNally (McNally Swords CC), Pauline Griffin (U/A) and Kathryn Hanrahan (Orwell Dundrum SC) were all riding their first league race this year, and rode strongly with the Limit group to hold off Scratch until the last half lap. Semi-Limit contained the ever-improving Nicky Veale (Stamullen M Donnelly) who finished a fine fifth. However, it was the larger than usual Scratch group who dominated the top results, with Harliwich taking the final sprint ahead of Róisín Kennedy (Staggs Lucan CRC) and Orla Hendron (Orwell Dundrum SC). Other Scratch riders Ieva Japertaite (Orwell Dundrum SC) and Coleen Foley (McNally Swords CC) completed the top six, with recently promoted Scratch rider Norah Daly (TriCycling.com) close behind.

Orwell Wheelers continue to provide one of the larger contingents in the league, with Hendron, Japertaite, Hanrahan and Aideen Collard all racing last night. McNally Swords CC were also out in force, fielding three riders. Refreshments were provided afterwards in the Boot Inn, where the Women’s Commission urged the ladies to support the forthcoming National Championships hosted by Mayo Wheelers in Westport on Saturday, and provided some details on the new Rás na mBan event which will replace the TQ International in September. Watch this site over the coming weeks for more information on this exciting 2 day event.
