Inter-Varsity League - Start Time:
Cycleways Dublin Inter-Varsity League - DU (Trinity College) cycling club (DUCC) and UCD cycling club are hosting an inter-varsity cycling league sponsored by Cycleways commencing on the 21st of January and running for 6 weeks. This league is aimed at students who are new to the sport and want to get a taste of what it's like to race. The dates and venue of the next races are as follows - Feb 4th: 10 mile Time Trial: Boot Inn / Feb 11th: Track introduction: Sundrive Track / Feb 18th: Road Race: Corkagh Park / Feb 25th: Road Race: Corkagh Park + All races will be €2 each, and will commence at 10am. However a full competition licence or one day licence will be needed for the road races and track day. A valid student ID will be needed to be eligible for the league. The main aim of the league is the garner interest in the University racing scene (which has been lacking for a number of years, with UCD CC as the only strong representative of University cycling), ahead of the Inter-varsity championships, which will be hosted later in the year by Trinity,. UCD hosted last years IV (which had been the first IV for a number of years). Despite the increase in interest in the sport, there still seems to be a barrier preventing students from entering the sport, this could be due to the cost of the sport and the lack of a presence of the sport in Universities. Having regular inter-varsity and colours events could help bulster the popularity of the sport, and hopefully allow future stars of the sport to shine through.
