Wyley wins for London Irish
The 36-year-old former Maidenhead Athletic middle distance track runner has enjoyed a successful year with many top ten finishes but a win on the road had eluded him during his season that started in February. The Maidenhead resident has competed in many rounds of the British Cycling Premier Series competition that began with the Archer GP in March, run on the tough circuit based in Haselmere. His successes include his ride in the Irish National Championships where he took tenth place behind winner Mark Scanlon Sunday’s event for Elite, 1st and 2nd category riders was run from a base in Oakley, Bucks on the tough circuit took in eight climbs of Brill Hill. "I managed to get away with four others after about one and a half laps," said Wyley: "We were never more than 30 seconds ahead but I motored up the hill each time to discourage the chasers which worked. On the final lap with about 2km to go, I attacked on the right hand side and just held on for dear life. I managed to hold on by about a wheels length on the line. The other guys had been caught by the chasers on the run-in." "I’ve managed to find a bit of form now," he continued: "and I’m now looking forward to the Isle of Wight 2-day race later this month."
