Lakeland Grand PrixBy Patrick WithersEnniskillen 28/04/02
However from the start things weren't going well, there was a bad headwind, it was raining and I was finding it hard to breath. I was in 5th place over the first climb, and things were gradually getting better, that was until we turned left, and out of the corner with an attack from David Dunlop, yet again I was dropped, and spent most of the next few miles trying to get back on. I could still see the main group, as we turned back on to the main road heading back towards Enniskillen, but that was the last I was to see of them. I turned straight into a headwind, which lasted most of the way round, through the start/finish area again. The second lap seemed to go by quicker, although there was still a terrible headwind. As I approached the end of it, I was caught by the break-away of the Senior race, then by the main group, which I managed to hang on to for about a mile! Towards the end of the third lap and the legs were getting sore, I was happy to see the finish line, and although a bit disappointed with my placing, happy to have finished.
